How to pick best video editing apps for creating videos on Android and iOS devices

    Last Updated on 07.06.2023

The main producer of videos for social networks is the owner of a mobile phone, and his main competitor in the fight for the attention of the audience is a professional manager of SMM.

It is for them, for the owner of a mobile phone, who can be anyone, and for the SMM professional, for those who are developing mobile applications to create and edit videos, apply effects and filters, add music tracks, make audio recordings and apply sound effects.

Therefore, mobile applications for working with videos are divided into two types: “for everyone” and “for professionals”.

There is one more type of video editor, which we call “special”: we classify video editors that, in our opinion, do not belong to either of the first two types.

The vast majority of apps of both types are offered as shareware, are paid for by subscription, or additional features are purchased directly from the app itself.

We’ll take a look at the specifics of choosing mobile video editors and discuss the main factors to consider.

Links to reviews of different types of mobile apps for creating and editing videos are at the end of the article.

Which video editing app is better for video production?

The question could also be asked in another way: on which of these platforms are the video editors better?

But even this question would not be entirely correct.

Let’s see what the problem is.

Initially, now even traditionally, all Apple products were positioned as the highest quality products available to the common consumer. Consequently, consumer prices for these products are traditionally the highest.

When it comes to computers, Apple has never strayed from the simple rule of using the latest, highest quality components.

This is where they come from: gorgeous displays with the highest resolution, high-capacity SSDs, and lots of high-speed RAM.

In conventional “minitower” form factors, the company produces powerful workstations that cost many times more than the same size Windows PCs.

The situation is almost the same with laptops.

Software manufacturers knew from the very beginning of the successful path of Apple products on the market that their buyer is a person with money and that Apple’s technology is really powerful and of high quality.

Therefore, the attitude of the developers towards the production of programs for MacOS was more than serious, and the specialization was obvious – the production of video and graphics, since from the beginning to this day, there were no competitors from the Apple computers in terms of price, quality, and performance, and there still aren’t.

Lest it be unfair, it should be noted that the most powerful configurations of Windows-based PCs and laptops are comparable to their Apple counterparts in quality, price, and performance.

But when it comes to software, the gap has not narrowed.

How does this relate to mobile apps?

    The most direct.

Since Apple has built a global ecosystem that brings together all types of devices it makes, software developers naturally want to maintain and strengthen their position in all segments of this ecosystem, from powerful workstations to mobile phones.

Therefore, mobile versions of applications for video production are released by all major companies that traditionally develop programs for MacOS.

So if you use an iPhone, you may want to consider apps from these companies.

As for the Android platform, applications from the same manufacturers have also appeared and are actively being developed for it, for the following reason.

Initially, Android mobile phones were aimed at the lower end of the price segment, since the upper end was very busy with Apple products, and also “status” devices with precious decoration of the “luxury” class and, on average, the The Nokia brand reigned supreme, and with it Samsung began to concur.

So it turned out that the word Android was a generic term for low prices, poor screens, weak processors, and small amounts of memory.

Now everything has changed and, as of 2020, Apple mobile phones are no longer the most powerful and have the best screens. Leading manufacturers (now Chinese and Korean) have provided their flagship models with the most powerful filler.

And Samsung, from whom Apple buys display panels, uses the latest and greatest models, of course, in its devices, selling Apple what used to be the best.

So has Apple really lost the battle? No way!

Video cameras on “iPhones” are still out of the competition among mobile devices.

It is possible that one day they will award first place, but we do not know that and we will not make any predictions. Now their cameras are the best, and if the quality of the image you can get when shooting with mobile phones is important to you, then the iPhone is better.

In our opinion, the differences in video quality recorded by the best mobile phone models of competing platforms are almost indistinguishable.

Just keep in mind that the iPhone still has the edge in video quality, as well as a more impressive list of features, video editors, and social networking services available.

But in the end, a bundle of an iPhone and essential apps will, of course, be the most expensive option.

A wider selection of apps, both in terms of features and prices, is of course available for Android devices.

In general, if you correctly understand your needs and are ready to start from real possibilities, you now have qualified arguments in favor of one or the other option.

This is not a meaningless question. Apple device users are used to paying money for apps, while Android users are not.

This happened because Android applications had to enter a highly competitive market, where Apple devices already dominated, BlackBerry and Nokia with its Symbian were well positioned with the support of the world’s leading mobile phone manufacturers.

Microsoft was very active with its WindowsPhone, which turned out to be a flop due to a flawed marketing strategy.

Google had a colossal advantage: an established ecosystem, integrated with a global advertising service.

A competent understanding of both the technical side of the problem and the mechanisms of the market allowed the company to build a part of this ecosystem, which made it possible for developers to actively promote free applications and at the same time earn money from advertising.

The Android platform was destined for success.

The success has been accompanied by the fact that users began to get used to free applications, and this custom has not gone anywhere.

For light apps and casual games that are distributed for free, monetization by displaying ads has remained a normal way of earning money.

As for applications with complex interfaces, such as video editors, it is simply impossible to allocate space for banners on the screen, and full-screen interstitial banners alone generate revenue that is not enough for the work of creating images. applications bear fruit and generate profits.

Therefore, developers simply have no choice but to sell additional features of apps that are distributed for free or sell full versions if the free version is not enough for normal operation.

However, among the applications to create and edit videos, there are those that are monetized through advertisements.

It often happens that users, annoyed by the need to pay for features they want, give apps unfairly low ratings. However, the apps themselves work great!

We recommend that you not only pay attention to the app’s overall rating, but also carefully read user reviews before downloading and installing it.
Not all mobile video editors are the same

As we wrote at the beginning of this article, it is enough to divide mobile video editors into three main types: universal, for SMM and special.
